February 2020 Meeting Minutes

The meeting of the High-Country Handiworkers was called to order at 7:07 p.m. on February 10, 2020 by President Josh Ryan.

The pledges were led by Gavin Johnson and Victoria Freeland.

Roll call was taken by Secretary Andrea Newby and the question asked was “How many projects do you have this year?”

Alexis Grundy moved to approve minutes as corrected with the January meeting end time changed to 7:52 p.m. not 8:52 p.m. Seconded and APPROVED. 

The treasurer’s report was given by Clara Coats: Checking = $2,757.18 and Savings = $3,959.30.

Reporter CharLee Davis had nothing for the reporter’s report this month.

The sunshine report was led by Kathryn Cox and Alexis Grundy (standing in for Wyatt Grundy who was absent). We had two February birthdays.

The Cloverbud report was given by Morgan Copeland (in the absence of Kinzie Copeland). The Cloverbuds learned the 4-H pledge and made 4-H Clovers and learned what the four Hs stand for and played 4-H bingo. 

Parliamentary procedure instruction was led by Rob Ryan on how to make a motion. 

Leaders Report:

Horse Project – Our guest Leslie Wiebel-Duke offered leadership assistance regarding horse projects. She also talked about the Junior Livestock Sale Committee. 

T-shirts – Extra t-shirts from previous years were shared.

Visual Arts and Home Decor Workshop – Reminder that the workshop is coming up on on February 20.

Clothing – Shavawn Cornett was introduced as a Clothing Construction leader.

Old Business:

Shooting Sports Orientation – There will be a shooting sports orientation on March 28 for those who did not make the ones in January or are new to the program.

4-H Carnival – Alexis Grundy, Eden Copeland, Ava Lewis, and Genesis Rivera offered to make ticket boxes and Shavawn Cornett has offered to make posters. Sharel Cameron will post a SignUpGenius for working the carnival booths on the club website.

New Business: 

Fair Parade Theme – The Fair Board has requested idea submissions for the fair parade theme.

Performing Arts Contest – Shavawn Cornett informed the club about the performing arts contest and who can participate.

Meat Quality Assurance (MQA) – MQA will be on February 29 for the Field Day and May 15 will be a Friday night opportunity.

Friends of the NRA Banquet – The club discussed paying for shooting sports leaders to attend the Friends of the NRA banquet on April 11. Emmett Manzella moved to pay $25 of the dinner cost. Seconded and APPROVED. 

Demonstrations:

  • Ava Lewis, brownie sampling comparison between grocery store and bakery.
  • Nate Rogers, 3 types of welding.

CharLee Davis moved to adjourn the meeting at 7:58 p.m. Seconded and APPROVED.
